Great Shock! Jul 20, 2010
By Shaka Night & day difference! I have a 4" lift on my jeep from Rocky Road Outfitters and their shocks were terrible. I've always seen these shocks on other lifted vehicles so I thought it was worth a try. I could tell the difference in an instance, they have a great balance, not too stiff but not too soft. I wish I would have done this 10 minute $100 fix 3 years ago!
Not too pricey and does the job well. Oct 03, 2011

I had these in the front of my 3" lifted Cherokee, and one started to leak (it was many years and miles old). As I wasn't the original owner, I didn't have the receipt so I bought a couple new ones. If I'd had the receipt, Rancho would have replaced it for free. So keep your receipt!
Anyway, I bought these as replacements. They went in easily and work well. I've gotten in a lot of highway driving and offroading as well.
They're more stiff than stock XJ shocks for sure, but they're good and stable. Even with a lift, it handles well. These are good shocks. A lot of people swear by Bilsteins but I will say that I've talked to a lot of XJ owners who have blown their Bilsteins. These don't have the same ride quality, but they're much cheaper and seem more durable.
Regarding the review below that says they're not gas and bottom out easily... they're definitely not spring-loaded. I can push them in and they'll stay in until you pull them back out, just like a proper shock. And I've done some pretty decent offroad crawling in them... they rarely bottom out then, and CERTAINLY not over a speed bump. Maybe the reviewer below has it on a car that doesn't have enough clearance to allow the shock to travel.

These clearly are NOT gas shocks Jun 24, 2011
By K. Winter I ordered these shock absorbers in March but did not have a chance to install them until this past weekend. Upon taking them from the box, it was pretty clear they were not gas shocks, as they were not tied closed, as is usual with gas shocks, and after putting them on my Jeep, they bottom out over the smallest of speed bumps. The OEM shocks, which were gas charged, never bottomed out on the same speed bumps.
Unfortunately, Amazon's return policy states I could only return them up to April 6, so I'm out the money I spent on these incorrectly labeled (not gas) shocks, which clearly are not a quality product, else I would not bottom out over the small speed bumps as they did.
