1Bad programmer even worse tech support  Dec 24, 2011 By Michael Turner
My son purchased this programmer locally for me as a Christmas present. The company we purchased it from plugged it in and started the programming process. The programmer returned an error and said it needed to be updated. So the tech went inside and tried to update it for my car. There was no update. Hypertech said they would have to "write a program" for my car. This should have been my first clue that something was not right. My car is two years old and they had not seen the programming before?

I waited from Saturday (when the programmer was purchased) till the following Friday to get the "program" for my car. I followed all of the instructions. Plugged the programmer into my computer and successfully updated the firmware. Then I took it out to the car plugged it in and started the programming process. The programmer got to a point and said "programming interrupted returning to stock. " So I pressed the only option, which was "y" and waited for it to finish. Then I started the programming process again. It got to the same point and it stopped again. I figured something was wrong so I called tech support.

The "tech support" person was very rude and kept interrupting me. He kept saying "the key needs to be in the proper position." Now I'm not a rocket scientist, but my key only has three positions and the programmer only uses two of them. I'm pretty sure I had the key in the correct positions. The programmer got to the part where it had been hanging up and I told him that I'd already been through all of this two times. He said to do it again. The programing takes several minutes to complete. He said "wait for it to complete then start over. If you have the same problem call me back." I assured him that I would have the same problem as I had already done this twice before. He insisted I call back if the problem occurred again. Ten minutes later I was at the same problem again so I called back only to get a message saying "we have closed until after the holidays please call back".

So I never got to use the programmer. Tech support was VERY rude and short with me. Trying to blame me for their faulty product. If I could give this no stars I would. After this experience I'm not sure if I will even get a programmer from another manufacturer. I will definitely never deal with Hypertech again after this experience.
