I bought this unit because Hypertech had a Free Spring Upgrade to MaxEnergy with any E-Con purchase. Initially they thought I couldn't use the free upgrade because the unit I bought from Amazon was OLD (actually built in 2008)and not compatible with the MaxEnergy software. After some conversation with Hypertech they uploaded a new version of software for my unit, and I was able to get the MaxEnergy upgrade.
I'm happy now with the performance gains I'm seeing from my 06 Chevy Duramax on Level 3 MaxEnergy.
