Auto Ventshade 680645 Chrome Hood Shield Feb 09, 2012
By D. Ferrin Installed on my 2010 Tacoma and I must say it's perfect! A neighbor recently bought a white Denali with the chrome Auto Ventshade brand shield installed and I was struck by the "factory original" look. Same effect on my Taco. It is understated on white and adds a "sporty" edge that doesn't scream look at me I'm here! I have yet to test the bug functionality being February in the mid-west. I noticed my first small rock ding in the drive's post the other day and that was the yea I'll buy it. Time will tell if it helps in that regard.
The shield is quite thick and substantial and the finish is ripple free just like the factory grill. It came through shipping without scuffs. Mounting points matched factory holes and installed with the provided 6 plastic expanding insert/screw combos. It took about 10 minutes to install including my pre-waxing. The fit is tight with the hood closed.
An interesting effect from the driver's seat; The ends of the shield act as reference points. Kind of hard to explain but today's vehicles slope off the front end without reference points. This shield has added them and my driving "comfort" or "confidence" level has increased. This was an unexpected side effect but welcome.
In the after picture a chrome grill insert cover is installed as well. If the sun comes out again I'll add some brighter pics...
