I replaced my stock air filter with this item. I had a 3 cylinder Geo Metro previously and a K&N filter worked wonders for me in that vehicle. In the Geo it helped acceleration and gas MPG.
Call it mental or a hoax..but I did not change anything else.
I put this one in my tC and I immediately noticed a difference. It seemed to stop a little stuttering on acceleration that I had. It could not have been a dirty filter as I just hit 15,000 miles. I could have had a bad filter...
Call it a fluke..but so far both times I have used K&N air filters they have worked wonders.
The only reason it got 4 stars is because I have not tested it for long term use yet on this vehicle. Also..the filter is not marked so you can tell which side is up or which side is down.

I replaced my air filter on my 06 Scion TC, 128,000 miles on the engine, with this washable K&N filter, I haven't had it in long, but the fact that I never have to spend 20+ dollars on a new filter again makes this bad boy worth it. Install takes less than 2 minutes. Well worth it, especially since Amazon.com offers it $5+ dollars cheaper than auto part stores.

I definitely notice a difference in performance and sound after installing this filter. I'll acknowledge that placebo may play a part. But I drive a lot and there is a noticeable difference with this filter as opposed to stock. A great step up from stock without going full-blown CAI.

My 2005 scion TC is the third vehicle in which with a K&N filter was installed.
As other reviewers mentioned above, this is a good filter with somewhat less restricted design for improved airflow. It's most important feature is that you can clean and maintain it as often as you want without having to replace it.
You simply cannot expect a high performance gain from a filter installed in the stock filter box, in a stock, low-rev engine. Yes, it sounds better at high rev and maybe adds a couple of HP, but that's not really noticeable in an engine with 160HP to boot with. Even a CAI would not benefit that engine that much - not without a proper ECU remap. With that combo you might be flirting with 2 digit gains (like 10% best, with a good mileage penalty tho).
So buy with confidence that this filter is not magic...4x stars exactly cause they exaggerate a bit in their site about performance gains...

I purchased this item because I was in need of an air filter, my car had low miles, and I wanted to save money in the long run.
I have read a few ridiculous reviews about the power gains. This is an air filter people! It might be louder under full throttle (not sure), but in the end, it is only a filter. It doesn't have more surface area, it is a stock replacement! Perhaps a larger filter might add a few ponies.
I also read that it increased fuel economy. This doesn't seem to be true for me. I would say that the fuel economy is about the same.
If you are looking for more power and/or better fuel economy, you probably will not get it. If you want a good lifetime filter to save money in time, buy it!
